"European Training and Research in Peritoneal Dialysis" - EU Marie-Curie Initial Training Network

Department of Pathophysiology of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences has long been involved in research in the field of peritoneal dialysis. As such, it has been recently awarded an educational grant 'European Training and Research in Peritoneal Dialysis' (EuTRiPD) within the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network.
In the frame of this programme, Department of Pathophysiology of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) invites applications for an open Marie Curie ESR fellowship.
The EuTRiPD network will provide a unique opportunity for a total of 12 researchers in early stages of their careers to study emerging research topics in the field of peritoneal dialysis and receive training to enhance their research skills, under the prestigious scheme of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network.
A fellow to be recruited will be employed under full-time fixed-term contracts with full social security coverage and all benefits in accordance to Marie Curie ITN fellowship regulations (highly competitive remuneration plus allowances for living and mobility expenses). Early Stage Researchers will register to read for a doctoral degree in medical sciences in the Faculty of Medicine of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences. The duration of the fellowship is 36 months.
Short project description: PUMS has pioneered research on senescence of peritoneal mesothelial cells and demonstrated that chronic exposure to high glucose - a key component of currently used PD fluids - results in premature and accelerated senescence of mesothelial cells under in vitro conditions. The phenotype of senescence was found to be associated with increased production of mediators that may contribute to peritoneal membrane dysfunction. The goal of the project will be to further characterize the responses of senescent mesothelial cells to PD fluids using global profiling of gene and protein expression. The senescent fingerprint will also be assessed in cells undergoing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, in cells obtained from animals treated with experimental PD, and in the human clinical material from peritoneal biopsies.
